What are alternatives to Furnished Finder?

Furnished Finder is one of the top sites to find mid-term furnished housing, which is housing for leases between 1-12 months.  They started as a site catered to traveling nurses in 2014 and have since expanded to allow anyone to rent on their site.

If you’re unable to find furnished housing for your mid-term stay on Furnished Finder, check out these sites below as alternative options:

  1. RotatingRoom
  2. MedsHousing
  3. Sabbatical Homes
  4. Padsplit
  5. Blueground
  6. Landing
  7. Sonder
  8. Sentral

1. RotatingRoom

RotatingRoom is the best and closest alternative to Furnished Finder.  They were founded by a medical student in 2009 for rotating medical students and now cater to the entire medical community.  Many of the homeowners on RotatingRoom are medical professionals themselves and are willing to offer affordable leases for the right tenant.  RotatingRoom has thousands of listings in dozens of cities across the country.  We find that RotatingRoom has the best value because of their tight-knit community and no booking fees.

2.  MedsHousing

MedsHousing is very similar to RotatingRoom in that it offers affordable places specifically for the medical community.  The main difference is that MedsHousing is only in a few cities in Canada, whereas RotatingRoom focuses on cities in the US.  If you’re a medical professional looking for housing in Canada we recommend you check out MedsHousing.

3.  Sabbatical Homes

Sabbatical Homes is another site built for a niche community, specifically visiting professors on sabbatical for a semester or year.  Therefore, most of their housing is targeted for 6 to 12-month leases and are targeted towards families.  Like Furnished Finder and Rotating Room, Sabbatical Homes does not charge a booking fee so you can find better value here if you’re a professor looking to stay for a semester or two.

4.  Padsplit

Padsplit is a site focused on providing lower-income workers with affordable housing in co-living environments.  They have listings in over 15 cities across the US and benefits include flexible term lengths, no security deposit, and no minimum credit score.  They typically take existing units and further divide them into more rooms, creating additional but smaller bedrooms for each of their properties.  Therefore, the rooms are typically smaller than average but are priced accordingly for those looking for an affordable place to live.

5.  Blueground

Blueground was started in 2013 in Europe and now offers over 10,000 listings across the world.  The site is geared towards traveling workers, such as consultants, and based on the pricing probably assumes that the business will be paying for the rental.  They lease, furnish, and operate all their properties, which are often luxury places for their location.  If your company is willing to pay a generous amount for your stay then Blueground is a great option.  If not, the other options above are certainly more affordable.

6Landing

Landing is a membership-based platform geared towards full-time remote workers or digital nomads who want to travel from place-to-place throughout the year.  Users pay a $199-annual fee and must commit to renting a place on Landing for at least 6 months each year.  Some people have referred to this as the ‘WeWork of housing’, targeting professionals who’d like flexible living options.  While not cheap and requires a big commitment, if you want to travel the world while working remotely, Landing is a much more convenient and reliable alternative to finding an AirBnB at each place you want to stay.

7.  Sonder

Sonder has over 250 properties in 43 markets across 10 countries, focusing mainly on large, urban cities.  Similar to the other platforms in the second half of this list, Sonder is targeting the luxury segment of the market.  They take over all their properties and provide high-end amenities that you typically see in hotels.  Most of their listings are for nightly stays and some include discounts for longer stays.  The price is definitely on the high-end but is a good option for those who want to stay in luxury apartment-style living in the short-term and are willing to pay for it.
